Remembering that you suggest starting a project before starting a business, I am starting a project where I will develop the skill of promote working capital so that small business owners can improve their businesses. I am looking to have one customer that I walked through the process to a successful funding by the end of the year.
Who? Who I am is I am a resource.
To what end? Helping others get what they want want helps me get what I want.
What's possible? Creating prosperity for all involved where it did not exist.
Have others accomplished this? Yes, those who committed to a consistent schedule to learn the business.
Do I have the Skills? I have the rudimentary skills to get started. I have cold called before. I have canvassed for other short-term jobs.
The commitment? Yes, I am committed to developing the skills necessary to be a helpful resource.
Do I have the time? I have the 1/2 hour to 1 hour a day that is recommended to get started.
Do I have the resources? yes, I already have a phone, and I have money for flyers and low cost online ads.
Do I have support? yes, my manager has been helpful so far.
I am up against that 'shiny object' syndrome that you write about. However, this may be good training to become more like the Matt character in your article. Thank you

Thank you for the question. I'm now looking into why this isn't a project, and what I can adjust.
I'm noticing that getting a customer by a certain date is not something I have control over.
However, creating a cold email series for potential customers by a certain date seems to be more in line with having a project.
There are activities in marketing that may lend themselves to projects. I'll take a further look.
I intend to be a resource so I will look for where I can create something resourceful, and as I find them, I can put deadlines in place, unless I am looking at this incorrectly.

I think I'm slowly coming around to what is the issue for me. I didn't or couldn't see what is missing. Assuming that learning to sell is realistic for me, I only have the list of stepping stones that you tackled in yesterday's article.
Overcoming fear (containing it) is what you listed as the first stepping stone. Maybe this is a dumb question, but Is this the first project (overcoming fear) I would need to set up?

And if this is accurate, then this is the first step. It is the source of the fear, by the way. And you cannot see the next step, until you complete this one.
